The Border Collie was developed in Scotland for herding. This breed is absolutely workaholic and they are the most intelligent dogs in the world, that is exactly why they need constant mental stimulation and lots of exercise otherwise they get bored and miserable, so they destroy your home. This breed is very easy to train, they learn very quickly and are capable to learn incredible amount of words and commands. (There is a highly intelligent Border Collie called Chaser who knows 1022 words! She can identify and retrieve 1,022 toys by name. ) As I mentioned they are very energetic but they can make great family pets, if they get what they need. Border collies need an owner who can always keep them busy and mentally stimulated. If they are bored, tend to bark a lot and become destructive.
Border Collie is a very people-oriented breed, they are the happiest when they can work. They always need something they can do because they get bored easily. They are also very good at activities like flyball, agility. They are very affectionate and playful, and love their owners. They say Border Collie is the best herding dog breed in the world. They love to run, so be prepared for long adventures if you choose this breed.
The Border Collies has a double two layer coat. One is short and smooth the other is a bit rough. They are considered average shedders and need to be brushed at least twice a week.
Queen Victoria was a real dog lover, she loved so many breeds but later she became a Border Collie enthusiast.
Border collies also make very good actors, we can see some of them in different movies and tv series.
They were bred for herding, especially for shepherding but they make very good search and rescue dogs.
