The Cocker Spaniel is a medium sized breed of gun dog, but in the United Kingdom they are very popular as family pets. They are friendly, affectionate, playful and quiet dogs. Cocker Spaniels are very adaptable so they can fit in almost everyone’s lifestyle. They are energetic, happy, highly intelligent dogs who are eager to please so they are also very trainable. They love walking and explore new places especially parks where they can sniff around for long periods.
They need to be taught who the pack leader is and where their place is in the pack. Cocker Spaniels have happy and kind personality. They are very loyal to their family and especially to one person who feeds them.
This breed can be trained very easily, they respond well to positive reinforcement training. Cocker Spaniels usually enjoy the training and they need lots of mental stimulation.
They are the happiest when they are kept busy. If they are bored, they can be destructive. They make good family pets when they know who the alpha is in the pack. A good owner provides enough daily exercise and mental stimulation to their Cocker Spaniel. They form strong bond with their owners and don’t like to be left alone for long periods.
Generally Cocker Spaniels are patient and good around children and other dogs. They love food very much, so it is important to keep an eye on their weight. This is one of the reasons why daily exercise is so important, it can help them remain fit and healthy.
Life Span: 12-15 years
